Wren's Egg

STANDING STONES
Wren's Egg image

The Wren's Egg (the stone in the background of the photo) is the ironic name given to a huge erratic boulder. Some 17m and 19m to the east (in the foreground) there is a pair of smaller stones.
The two boulders have been thought to be the surviving inner and outer elements of a double stone circle centred on the 'Egg'. But excavations have shown the impossibility of such a monument existing here.
