Aye, the lady in the story is forgetful of the fact that the purpose of mapquest-type maps is that after you use it, then you will be going to see the real landmarks.
if you want neat landmarks onscreen, then you need to use google earth. And they also have a collaborative google earth where folks are able to embed their own architecture<<this has got to be wild and the lady in the story did seem to be most concerned about the human experience being lost in map making.
personally i dig soil maps.
