Hi Shazza.....

If we were simply to go by the script or font of the wording, then I'd say that there is no great age to the feature.

Antiquities are usually denoted with a special script.

It could be facetious i.e. a slightly "ruder " croft than usual for the area or the inahbitant thought themselves slightly above the locals . Or related to someone called Solomon . There are some follies with that name too .

Hi Shazza,

I took a photo of Ratton Clough, which is close to Soloman's Temple Farm, and a comment was left by a Mr John W. Storey who also mentioned Soloman's. I did some digging around and although I haven't found any details of the origin of the name I found some Census Returns as follows:

1851 Withnell, Dist.2E Pg 3
Thomas Shorrock and family. Hand Loom Weaver.

1861 Withnell, Dist.13 Pg 16
As above But Farmer of 10 Acres and Picker Maker.

1871 Withnell, Dist.11 Pg 6
As above.

1881 Withnell, Dist.12 Pg 23
William Rossall and family. Farmer 36 Acres.

1891 Withnell, Dist.9 Pg 32
As above.

1901 Withnell, Dist.9 Pg 38
The farm was empty.

Hope they're of some interest.
Regards
