I found this wonderful site while looking for information on Salisbuy, England.
My mother's family name is Salisbury and located in/around Martin, Ky, USA. I remember from childhood that the family immigrated to the area from Salisbury, England.
I have an idea that there must have been some degree of prominence in the family as indicated by a couple facts:
The family was granted a 5 mile square (more or less) parcel of land in Martin due to "acts of bravery and heroism" during the Civil War.
That land was forfeited to the State of Kentucky by means of escheat after the passing of my grandfather, as the surviving children (9 of 13) disagreed for so long as to what to do with the land. My cousin has since re-acquired the land from the State.
A prominent family name in Kentucky politics is Stumbo. The present Attorney General of the State of Kentucky is a Stumbo, for example.
There are Salisburys burried in the Stumbo family cemetery whom are related to me.
I understand also that there is a high incidence of negative RH blood type in and around the Salsbury, England area, which I've heard attributed to the presence of the druids, Basque witches and the like. My blood type is A-. I've heard that there is only about 15% of the US population and 5% of the world population with negative RH factor.
I would be greatful if anyone here can point me in the direction of where I can find more information regarding a Salisbury family from the area. Contact information would be phenominal!
Thank you.
