I am a mature student studying Art. I am currently working on a project involving hagstones and other 'holey' stones, such as monoliths similar to the Odin Stone. This is a long-term, ongoing project involving different aspects of the stones and the stories surrounding them.

I was wondering if anyone could let me know which monoliths in Britain/Ireland have holes in them, such as Men-An-Tol. Also if the holes are natural or man-made, and how easy they are to visit and film? I've been trawling through photos and websites, but it isn't easy to find out which stones have holes in them. Thanks.

Hello , apart from the Odin stone other ones that come to mind are  Ballymeanoch , Hacketstown Carlow .Moytirra east Sligo .Doagh Co. Antrim .Devils Ring and Finger Staffordshire . Craw stone  Wigtown and  Ringing stone Avebury. Also worth mentioning a stone from the cist at Balblair .I believe all those were man made andall accessible except the Balblair which I think is in a shed somewhere in Invernesshire if it's not in the museum in Inverness .

the Ring stone at Avebury has been destroyed but there are several other stones in Avebury with small holes.
One has three large holes which was found on the Beckhampton avenue in 2003 but was sadly reburied during the Negotiating Avebury Project.
Lanhill long barrow has a holed entrance stone but this has now been covered up.
The Fairies Toote long barrow at Nempnett Thrubwell had a holed entrance stone but it has now been destroyed.

Thanks very much for the info - I shall spend some time researching and trying to plan some visits when the weather improves!
