I picked this piece of stone up on one of many visits to England.  It caught my eye as it stood out from other stones because of its shape. What amazes me is that it fits so well into my hand and would be ideal for cutting and scraping, if it was newly made. When I reverse it, it again fits well and the flat end becomes a small hammer. If indeed it was made into this shape for these particular purposes I am even more amazed at the toolmakers skill. I look forward to reading your opinions.Attached File  Stone Tool 001.jpg   251.98K   8 downloads

Yes, I'm afraid this looks like "just an old stone."  It's quite small and there appear to be no sharp edges to it, no knapping to create cutting edges.  It is not unusual for rock to fracture naturally in ways that create similar-shaped surfaces on opposite sides, and this might be the result by the way it fits your hand.  But keep looking, you are identifying lithic forms that appear unusual, and than might mean you've identified a man made tool in the future!
