Well the word is out that H.S. ? are in the process of changing this site. Why? New sensitivities? Continuation of jobs/fashions? The 1950s approach to interpretation (the Piggot Dome) is as valid as any other and if the visitors like it then why not? There could be a bit about ´Landscape archaeology' but that is an addition not a removal of previous histories. Do we need some voice over to 'look at the past'...no. and if we did what language? The site IS, and that is good enough. So lets not return it to some idea of what it was like at some specfic time, lets trust the visitor to talk about the site with those there and not lean on some 'Big Brother' text.

Hi Nick,
I do not know what is planned at Cairnpapple which I knew well from when I lived locally many years ago but I presume this must be a re-excavation and/or works to popularise the site. I think this is needed as there are many iron age and stone age sites nearby which could be better signposted an have there profile raised for educational purposed.
For instance the genuine preceptory at Torphichen (still in use!) with associations to William Wallace, the refuge stones associated with it, Cockleroy, Boden Hill(possible arthorian connection?), The knock, the old silver mine workings and of course the original scottish oil extraction 'bings' of parafin Young!
Best regards,
John Minelly
