Louvian, if you look at picture 232 on Pete's post above you will see people sitting in the hollow of the stone in question before it was stabilized by a concrete infill, No mysterious "Monolith" I'm afraid.

I took this from Farley Mount near Winchester. It was fascinating to watch the end of the ocultation as Venus appeared slowly from behind the moon. I was pleased that the earthlight showed quite well. Soon afterwards the clouds rolled in an that was that
